Contact Lenses

SOFT CONTACT LENSES

Almost anyone who wears spectacles can wear contact lenses, including people who require multifocal lenses. New technology means contact lenses are clearer, more comfortable and more convenient than ever. They provide a full field of unobstructed vision, freedom of movement unmatched by spectacles, additional flexibility to take on new activities with crisper vision.

The advantages of using a daily contact lens is:
- When playing sport the daily contact lens can be worn without problems
- They are easy to insert and remove from the eye
- They do not require cleaning because they are only single use
- They moisturize the eye on contact to prevent discomfort when wearing them

EXTENDED WEAR CONTACT LENSES

There are a range of contact lenses which can be worn for an extended period of time. Developments in technology achieved through research has allowed for the development of a new material which offers users the convenience of a 30 day contact lens which still allows the eye to breathe with the contact on even during sleep.

Infection has previously been a problem associated with extended wear contact lenses, however the latest development into contact lenses has made these problems a thing of the past with wearers experiencing the convenience of an extended wear contact lens without the problems associated with wearing the lens for an extended period of time.

These 30 day lenses do not suit all contact lens wearers but for those who are able to wear them they offer the convenience of an extended wear contact lens.

RIGID GAS PERMEABLE LENSES

Gas permeable lenses unlike soft contact lenses provide a new shape for the front of the eye. This means that patients with corneal distortion have the option of wearing RGP lenses which will resurface the eye.

In such circumstances soft lenses will not work well as they mold to the initial shape of the cornea and do not fix the problem. With a RGP contact it does not bend but will retain its shape providing a new surface for the cornea. RGP contacts are especially useful with patients who suffer from keratoconus.

RGP lenses allow patients who have mild to high astigmatism and people who require multifocals to wear the contact lenses in order to help solve their vision problems.

ORTHO-KERATOLOGY

Ortho-K is short for Orthokeratology. They are hard contact lenses that are worn while you sleep and are removed in the morning, resulting in clear vision for the whole day without the need of glasses or contact lenses. Ortho-K has no permanent changes to the eye, giving you ultimate control and flexibility of your vision correction without the risks involved in laser eye surgery.
